Checking in with students mid-semester |
I don't know about you, but after the January I had, I'm ready to mimic this groundhog and just stretch out in a sunny spot! Luckily the sun is going to peek out a little more for us than it has the past few weeks, and as the rodent mascot of the month reminds us, spring is coming, sooner or later.
If you could use a little warmth and support, consider the recommendations listed below. Weeks 5-7 are an excellent time to get feedback from your students about changes you might be able to implement to improve their learning now, rather than waiting for the next time you offer the course.

Want a quick, conversational reminder of how and why to collect feedback? Refresh your memory with our blog post (written by Hubster Sarah Silverman!)

Looking for an example template to collect your own feedback? Here you go!

The Hub is offering mid-course student feedback sessions for in-person and online classes. After a consultation, an instructional designer will engage directly with your students to collect feedback, without you present. We'll then discuss that feedback individually and help you make a plan for responding to your students.
|
While there are only limited spots, our mid-course student feedback sessions are a great way to engage just a little more deeply than usual with a Hub consultant. We use the first conversation to uncover with you what kind of information from these students, this semester, you can really use. Students regularly respond positively to being asked how the class is going, and sometimes say so on end-of-class evaluations. And in our wrap-up consultation, we send you out with ideas that speak to what you value: you're in the driver's seat! A written, anonymized report of your students' answers goes with you, too - starting with all the things going right, for you to remind yourself of on gloomier days. We'd love to talk about your students with you!

A Conversation Around GenAI: Opportunity to Grow |
"On November 29th, 2023, the Hub and the Foundations Program together hosted a campus talk given by Dave Cormier, Digital Learning Specialist at the University of Windsor’s Office of Open Learning. Many thanks are due to Patrick Beauchesene, Director of the Foundations Program, and Autumm Caines, Lead Instructional Designer at the Hub, for their efforts organizing Dave’s visit. As the title of Dave’s talk “A Conversation around GenAI: The Opportunity to Grow” suggests, the talk was carefully prepared and designed to facilitate a robust conversation, rather than to present “answers” or “strategies” about GenAI in the classroom." - read the rest on the blog here!

What is a GenAI Stress Test?
Give one of our Instructional Designers your assignment and together we can take a shot at completing it using GenAI. This process can be enlightening in redesigning the assignment with GenAI in mind.
