A joyous day to be remembered!

Jean Stone Houser, the mother of Kim and Pastor Bill Barnes, passed away November 9 at the age of 89. She is survived by her two daughters, four granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. Jean was an avid tennis player. She was involved and served her church Christ Methodist Church in Fort Lauderdale, until moving here in 2014 to be closer to her family. During her time here, while living in her community, she loved gardening and feeding the birds, and sometimes deer. Jean was a devoted Girl Scout Leader and volunteer for almost 20 years. They honored her with the “Thank Badge” for her commitment to the organization and the lives she touched. Please continue to lift up the Barnes family in prayer on the recent losses of both their mothers.
Jeffrey Norman Pryor, age 56, passed away at home on November 12 after a short battle with cancer. Jeff is survived by his wife Jennifer and their two children Annie and Jake. His parents are St. Lukers Marcia and Norm Pryor. Jennifer is a former St. Luke’s Childcare Development Center teacher and both Annie and Jake attended pre-school at the CDC. Jeff had a wonderful sense of humor and was able to blend that sense of humor in his professional career with true caring and compassion. He worked for 15 years at the Life Care Center in Altamonte Springs as the Director of Social Services. Jeff’s main priority was always his family. He planned all his free time around spending time with them creating fun times and wonderful memories. At every family gathering, Jeff could be seen out with Annie and Jake along with his 14 nieces and nephews playing basketball or organizing a kickball game. He was always the favorite uncle. Jeff was a devoted husband, an amazing father, and a loving son. On November 20 the family held a private memorial service for Jeff at St. Luke’s in the sanctuary. Please lift up Jennifer, Annie and Jake, and the entire Pryor family in your prayers during this time.

Milestones

Congratulations to St. Lukers Garry and Cindy Schneider! They celebrated 40 years of marriage on November 29.

Micro-Farm: Girl Scouts Take Action Project
Sisters Aislyn (Brownie) and Keely (Daisy) of Girl Scout Troop 2061 are working towards the highest honor they can receive at their age. This is achieved by completing three incredibly challenging and involved studies in character and leadership. When these studies are complete, they apply what they have learned and take action in their community. This is what brought these sisters to the Micro-farm one Tuesday morning: pulling weeds, picking up acorns, and spreading seeds in order to be a small part of a bigger impact. They say they learned so much and can't wait to go back!
Congratulations to St. Luker Reva Casimir (Raven Day McShane). Her book “He Knows My Name” was recently accepted for publication and is scheduled for a July 2021 release. It is a fictional series based on her life and highlights the adversity faced by many military veterans transitioning from the military with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, not willing or not able to get treatment and the havoc that wreaks on their lives and families.
Season’s Greetings from CDC
The Child Development Center is festive and glowing this time of year. The children have lots of hopes about what happens this holiday season. In Chapel, they learned about how Advent is a time for waiting and the Advent candles mark the hope, peace, joy, and love that Jesus brings. The 4-year-old VPK program has been learning about other Holiday Traditions.

The Feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated by placing shoes out on December 6.
The first candle for Hanukkah is lit on December 10.
St. Lucia’s Day is celebrated on December 13 with a crown of candles.
The Christmas tree tradition began in Germany with candles on the tree.

The Child Development Center will begin registration for the next school year at the end of January. Look for registration information on the website at www.st.lukes.org/cdc or call the school at 407-876-1155.
