Measles outbreaks and vaccine policy |
The U.S. faces ongoing measles outbreaks, renewing attention on childhood immunization rates and vaccine requirements. Sonia Bychkov Green, an associate professor at the UIC School of Law, can discuss the legal framework governing vaccination mandates. Her research focuses on vaccine laws in schools and workplaces, public health policy and conflicts of law. She can also address state school vaccination requirements, medical and religious exemptions, public health authority, and the legal challenges that emerge during outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles.

Ideology guides exemption views |
New research finds Americans are more likely to support religious exemption claims when the claimant's political views align with their own, suggesting ideology may shape perceptions of who deserves First Amendment protections. Across four studies, UIC researchers found that while respondents often associate conservative positions with sincere religious belief, support for exemptions was driven primarily by political alignment. Lead author Mary Katz, a doctoral student in psychology at UIC, and senior author Michael Pasek, a UIC assistant professor of psychology and expert on political psychology and public opinion, are available to discuss what the findings reveal about bias, religious freedom and legal decision-making.

"Perennial City" connects early urban gardening experiments at Hull-House to today’s movements for environmental justice, food access and land stewardship. Drawing on rarely seen archival materials alongside new artist commissions, the exhibition at UIC's Jane Addams Hull-House Museum explores how Chicagoans, past and present, have used gardening as a tool for creativity, care and community action.
