Harding Academy Vs. CAC with Jason Hunt

Friday, September 13th marked the first home game of this year’s football season. Senior Jason Hunt expressed his pride for his team’s defense in particular and the fact that they were able to hold off Harding academy more than the media expected.

“I think as the game overall we did extremely well... We did not roll over and give up. We fought the whole game,” he said.

Jason also feels proud of the team’s performance. He explained that even though they had to face up against the #2 ranked 5A team, that did not cause them to throw in the towel.

Excited to get back on his home field, Jason said, “There is no [better] feeling [than] making a big play at your home stadium and just seeing the crowd explode," he said. "That is a moment that you can never experience enough.”

To him the football team is more than just a team. Jason describes it as a brotherhood. He said that even though the team is small they “have a brotherhood that is much larger than the team itself.”

Jason’s advice to any young football players would be to “just keep putting in the hard work and it will pay off. You will see a change at some point in time. It may not be immediate but it will happen. If you truly do want it then do not give up and just keep going after it.”

Maddie Phillips Takes the Court

Maddie Phillips, a sophomore on the varsity volleyball team, thinks she and the team played well on Thursday, Sept. 19th in their game against Harding Academy. While she was proud of some of her own performance, she gives credit to the sets and passes that her hits wouldn’t have been possible without.

The Lady Mustangs played a long game of 5 sets that night, taking the final score to beyond the winning score of 15 in the 5th set. She said their system worked well even when things “seemed all over the place.”

“By communication and since we practice it a lot, the rallies didn’t seem so crazy.”

Maddie is looking forward to seeing how far the team can go in their season. She is also looking forward to personal achievements as well.

“I want to get blocks on girls that are taller than me," she said. "I love the feeling of getting a block, so that is another thing that I am excited for.”

One reason she enjoys being on the team is she is able to connect with girls that are in other grades than her that she may not get to connect with otherwise. She also loves the team’s atmosphere.

“We all want the same thing — that is when I feel most connected with the team.”

Speak Up — David Cipriano

Senior David Cipriano has been apart of Mr. Hines' robotics class for the past two years. Last year David says that their big project for the year was making a robot for the competition at the end of last year in Searcy. This competition was three days long, and it consisted of several 3 on 3 games against other robots! David plans on majoring in Computer Science in college, which is incorporated a lot into robotics. He says that he really would love to program video games.
