Last week, New England Public Media's "Connecting Point" ran a great 5-minute feature about Josh Simpson's work:
| |
Infinity and Beyond Since the 1980s, Josh has hidden his Planets all around the world. He launched The Infinity Project in 2000, inviting people via his website to hide Planets in locations of their own choice, whether dramatic, scenic, historic, or just personally meaningful. Now, more than 4,000 Infinity Planets are hidden... everywhere!
| |
Visitors to Josh's solo exhibit at the Springfield Museums (see below) were invited to submit Infinity Project proposals. Although we originally planned to choose one participant, nearly 50 proposals were sent in, so Josh ended up selecting five!

Baha'i Temple, Wilmette, Illinois
|
|
- Quinn H's Planet will find a home at the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette, Illinois, "a truly cosmic and magical place."
- Walter G. will hide a Planet in Pointe Aux Barques, Michigan, in honor of a favorite childhood memory.
- Aimee C. will place a Planet on Mt. Riley in Haines, Alaska, in honor of her mom who recently passed away.
- Elizabeth M. will hide one Planet in her hometown in Puerto Rico, then share her second one with friends and family there.
- Maija R's Planet will end up near the rope swing at Black Pond in Vermont, a place that represents "friendship, love, and care, all of which make the world a better place."

Infinity Planet at First Encounter Beach in Eastham, MA, hidden by Lucy P. last November
|
|
For the start of 2023, we also selected six of the 30 proposals submitted by readers of "Quartz Obsession," a worldwide newsletter that recently featured Josh's work. These Planets are headed for intriguing international destinations:
- On the riverbank of the Bushamns River in Capetown, South Africa.
- On a slope overlooking Kuala Lampur in Malaysia.
- Honoring the gravesite of a lifelong Star Trek fan, in Saskatchewan, Canada.
- In the desert of Xinjiang, China.
- On the historic island where Catherine of Aragon was held, in Cambridgeshire, England.
- At the site of the 2022 Planet Earth Concert, on San Miguel Island in the Azores, Portugal.

We invite you to submit your own proposal to the Infinity Project. If yours is chosen, we will send you two Infinity Planets: one to hide and one to keep. The video below explains the Infinity Project in more detail.
