I hope you enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving break. As we head into the final weeks of the year, I am pleased to share an important update regarding the University Unions leadership transition. Effective January 1, Assistant Vice President Jennifer Speer will assume interim oversight of the University Unions in addition to her current leadership role with Recreational Sports.
Jennifer began her career here 27 years ago as an Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness at Recreational Sports and has advanced steadily to her current position. To this expanded role, she brings a track record of delivering results across multi-unit operations including student programming, fundraising, retail operations, facility management and renovation, and other auxiliary services. I’m confident Jennifer will apply the same leadership approach to the University Unions that she has demonstrated at Recreational Sports. Please join me in congratulating her on this interim appointment.
I also want to thank Mulu Ferede for his significant contributions as Executive Director of the University Unions over the past 11 years. His vision and dedication have left a lasting mark, most notably the renovation of Hogg Memorial Auditorium, which will serve students for years to come. As Mulu approaches his December 31 retirement, please join me in recognizing his many achievements and wishing him the very best in the future.
