These laws often conflict with LGBTQ+ rights, creating barriers for care and impacting overall health, according to , a nationally recognized expert in LGBTQ+ population health and an assistant professor at the UIC School of Public Health. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Illinois will require employers to disclose when AI is used in recruitment, hiring or promotion, and prohibit discriminatory outcomes such as the use of zip codes as proxies. Available to discuss the new law from the perspectives of employers and job seekers is Michael Bennett, associate vice chancellor for data science and artificial intelligence strategy at UIC. Bennett, who is also an affiliate faculty member in the UIC School of Law, examines the societal implications of emerging technologies, such as AI and big data, and their ethical and legal applications.
