MEET CARMITA FROM ECUADOR ...
| |
...recent DGL graduate, university valedictorian, adventure-seeking biologist, and 100% committed Young Life leader
For as long as she can remember, Carmita has loved science. Her grandfather gave her a secondhand copy of National Geographic when she was 13 years old and today her collection contains more than 200 issues.
Carmita recently graduated with honors from Amazonian State University in Ecuador with a Bachelor's of Science in biology and focussed research on the effects of microplastics in the digestive tract of Amazonian fish.

Taking Young Life to the same Amazonian village where missionary Jim Elliot and four others were martyred
"I had the opportunity to share a few days with the people of the Waorani community and believe me when I tell you that it is the best experience of my life. Felipe is the spiritual leader of this community, son of Mincaye who was an Ecuadorian Waorani preacher and church elder who participated in the attack on five missionaries during Operation Auca in 1956. Hearing the story firsthand was impressive to me and sharing time with Ñeñe, Mincaye's wife, is something I will not forget." – Carmita Noemi Castro

Carmita and her husband, David, (also a DGL) serve as Young Life leaders in their local area and recently participated in a South American Young Life leadership training weekend in March 2024.
| |
(Below) A week earlier, David and Carmita celebrated their one year anniversary, donning their wedding clothes and setting out on an adventure. (Who wouldn't want these two as their Young Life leaders?)
"When we got married, we knew our adventurous hearts were going to lead us to experience breathtaking things and these photos represent this year full of love, forgiveness, patience, empathy and more."
– David and Carmita
