International Volunteer Managers Day - 5 November

International Volunteer Managers Day is an opportunity to thank all the paid and unpaid environmental volunteer managers across Victoria.

Volunteer managers and leaders are a powerhouse of volunteering. Their dedication, expertise and heart make the world a better place and bring about change in our communities.

Thank you for all the work that you do supporting volunteers to care for nature.

Thanks so much to those of you that recently attended the third annual Environmental Volunteer Managers Forum. Whether you were in the room at Melbourne Zoo, at one of the regional hubs or online, we hope you enjoyed the day.

Cultural Burning Webinar - Thursday 9 November 1-2pm

Join us for a cultural burning webinar to learn about cultural burning in DEECA's Port Phillip Region with Liam Gallagher, and to hear about a project to bring traditional Wurundjeri burning back to Christmas Hills with Doug Evans.

Protecting our wildlife, lands and agriculture sector over the summer

Agriculture Victoria (AgVic) works with Victorian farmers and the agriculture sector to prepare for, respond to and recover from natural disasters including fires, floods and storms.

A new Fire Preparedness Toolkit has been launched to assist farmers and private land managers with preparing their farm business, livestock, staff and infrastructure ahead of the fire season.

Events

Wadawurrung cultural education session - Thursday 9 November 9.45am - 4.30pm

Join Landcare volunteers and other NRM professionals on a cultural education and immersion day on country with Wadawurrung man Ash Skinner.

A bus will transport participants between three sites over the day departing from and returning to Eynesbury.

Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program Update

DEECA is looking towards future planning for the Victorian Landcare Facilitator Program and undertaking a review.

We want to ensure the current program continues to deliver the most effective support for the Landcare and environmental volunteer community, Landcare facilitators and employers.

Feedback and input from the Landcare and environmental volunteer community will be critical to understanding what makes the program great, and what can be improved.

An independent engagement specialist will run consultation sessions and an online survey with multiple ways for people to contribute. The independent specialist will analyse and collate everyone's feedback to provide to DEECA.

Please keep an eye out for opportunities to contribute to the consultation process in early 2024.

Iramoo Young Stewards - 11 November

Do you have a passion for nature and want to make a positive impact?

We are working to gear up the next generation of people to love and care for Iramoo and other remnant native grasslands in the west of Melbourne. We are looking for people aged 16 - 29 years to come along and share their ideas and explore the possibilities.
