Did you know that textbook costs have risen over 800% since 1978?

Yesterday, we introduced Open Educational Resources (OER) and Affordable Course Materials. Today, we're excited to showcase how the UAH Library can help you find, implement, and share these resources.

Start with Library-Licensed Materials

Did you know that the Library can already assist you with curating course materials that are free of cost to learners? By working with the Library on course materials, you can:

• Select library-licensed materials from our collection, including e-books, journal articles, and multimedia (images, video, and audio) to assign as course texts.
• Ensure your materials are copyright and Creative Commons license compliant.
• Get help linking these materials in your syllabus and Canvas course.
• Learn more about Leganto, our course materials platform, which will launch in Fall 2025. Leganto will enable you to create and manage reading lists of library-licensed materials and integrate them directly into Canvas.

Navigating OER Repositories Made Simple

Finding the right OER can seem daunting, but our librarians are here to guide you through trusted repositories like:

• OpenStax for comprehensive textbooks
• OER Commons for diverse content
• Open Textbook Library for peer-reviewed resources

We'll help you evaluate materials and find ones that align with your course objectives.

Beyond Textbooks:
Open Access and Public Domain

Looking for supplementary materials? We can help you discover:

• Public domain works available through Project Gutenberg
• Open access journal articles and research
• Creative Commons licensed audio and visual media (graphics, sound, video)
• Primary source materials for your discipline

Share Your Expertise: Contributing to OER

Are you ready to share your own materials? We can help you:

• Deposit your OER in the LOUIS repository
• Choose appropriate Creative Commons licenses for use of content you didn't author
• Choose the appropriate license for content that you author and want to publish
• Make your materials discoverable worldwide through digital channels

• Connect with other repositories in your field

• Broaden your audience for your academic content published both within and beyond the academic community
