Primary Care Master Clinical Teacher Program

Beginning in the 25-26 academic year, all students in their first primary care course will have a Primary Care Master Clinical Teacher (MCT) session. The goal of the Primary Care MCT session is to enhance students' abilities in key areas commonly encountered in a primary care setting such as history-taking, physical examination, clinical reasoning, and patient management, particularly focusing on chronic medical problems. Students will also be supported by the MCT in developing learning goals based on the encounter and will receive formative feedback after the session. Like the other MCT sessions, this session will not factor into your course grade, so take full advantage of this learning opportunity! Slides and a recording for the recent informational session can be found on the Gateway and please direct any questions to Rachel.Apple@vumc.org.

EDUCATOR OF THE MONTH

Katharine Sourbeer, MD, is a co-course director for the Stroke ACE and AI and General Neurology ACE. Her favorite part about teaching medical students is their enthusiasm.

Katharine Sourbeer, MD

Dr. Sourbeer became interested in neurology during medical school; she really enjoyed the neurology block during her pre-clinical years in medical school and found herself drawn to the neurological cases when on service. During her residency, she attended Vanderbilt's Focus on Common Movement Disorders and this piqued her interest in movement disorders as a subspecialty. In addition to the general movement disorders neurology clinic, Dr. Sourbeer can be found in the Tourette's, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), and Huntington's/Atypical Parkinsonism clinics. She also is one of VUSM's associate clerkship directors for the neurology clerkship and is an MCT and part of the FPR programs. Dr. Sourbeer hopes to see you during any of the courses and programs she's involved with!
