Achieving Carbon Neutrality — Reporting Progress on the AIA 2030 Commitment

In the most recent AIA 2030 By The Numbers report, BNIM is among 31 firms out of 490 signatories that met the 80% predicted EUI reduction target across our entire portfolio in 2023.

The AIA 2030 Commitment has engaged design firms globally over the past 15 years in a collective pursuit of achieving carbon-neutral buildings by 2030. The By The Numbers report highlights significant statistics from a total of 490 firms reporting the building performance of their projects to track progress toward a net-zero emissions future.

Net Zero Conference
BNIM's Director of Sustainability and Regenerative Design, Jeremy Knoll, AIA, LEED Fellow, SEED, EcoDistricts AP, participated in a panel discussion alongside celebrated innovators Sandeep Ahuja, Co-founder and CEO of cove.tool, and Eric Corey Freed, RA, LEED Fellow, Director of Sustainability at CanonDesign.

SCUP North Central Regional Conference
Amy Dishman, IIDA, LEED AP, NCIDQ, LFA, Associate, presented on the Collaborative Revitalization of UNMC’s Sustainability Guidelines. Kevin Nordmeyer, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal, and Jason Kruse, AIA LEED AP BD+C, Associate Principal, presented ALL – The Making of the Tom and Ruth Harkin Center + A Guidebook of Strategies for Inclusive Design at this year's conference.

Equity Committee, Ankeny Community School District
Tina Wehrman, NCIDQ LEED AP, Associate Principal and Director of Interiors, has been appointed to the Equity Committee with the Ankeny Community School District. Tina will join the committee in advising on and supporting the Ankeny Community School District’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Harkin Institute’s National Advisory Council 
Kevin Nordmeyer, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal, was recently appointed to The Harkin Institute’s National Advisory Council. In this role, Kevin will contribute to the institute’s bipartisan council of national leaders who provide guidance for the institute, serve as speakers and mentors, and support The Harkin Institute’s mission. 

AIA Oklahoma Conference
James Pfeiffer, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, served as Keynote Speaker, presenting Special Delivery: The Practice of BNIM, focused on how acute situational and spatial awareness, a holistic and integrated approach, and a generalist design mindset engages and enables all design to inspire change and enhance the human condition.

The University of Kansas Architecture Lecture Series
BNIM Principals Katie Nichols, AIA, LEED AP, and James Pfeiffer, AIA, LEED AP, visited The University of Kansas to present on Relationship Building, a session exploring how relationship building between people, disciplines, space types, and contexts advances human-purposed, inclusive design.

Small Scale Developer Forum
Sam De Jong, AIA, LEED AP, Associate Principal, participated in this bi-annual event dedicated to sharing insights on building better environments and creating transformative, small-scale projects that positively impact their communities.
