Kudos to Jo Ann Oravec, professor of information technology and supply chain management, who will present “Human-Robot Marriages in Science Fiction Literature and Movies” on Nov. 30, 2023, at the Eighth Annual City Tech Science Fiction Symposium sponsored by the New York City College of Technology (CUNY). Kudos to John Frye, who has been named the director of the Undergraduate Research Program. Frye demonstrated enthusiasm and a strong research background mentoring undergraduate students and their research projects since coming to UW-Whitewater in 2011. Congratulations, Dr. Frye!

Kudos to E Jeninga, a graphic design student in UC Graphics & Marketing, for winning third place in the T-shirt category for their UC Live T-shirt design at the 2023 Midwest Regional Campus Activities Planning Conference in Lincolnshire, Illinois.

Kudos to UC Live’s programming board for winning APCA (Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities) Midwest Programming Board of the Year for 2023.

Kudos to Jonathan Ivry, associate professor of English, whose article "'A Sort of Buoy': Stevens, Plato, and Benjamin Jowett" appeared in "Harmonium at 100," a special issue of The Wallace Stevens Journal, Volume 47, No. 2 (Fall 2023). Read more »

Kudos to the UW-Whitewater Center for Inclusive Transition, Education and Employment (CITEE) for welcoming Southeastern Wisconsin eighth graders with and without disabilities to the UW-Whitewater campus to learn more about the college-to-career connection. The Transition Perspectives Middle School College Day event included networking with UW-Whitewater student mentors, a career interests tour hosted by campus departments, and a visit to the Kachel Fieldhouse to connect with student-athletes. The eighth graders came away from the event sharing comments like “College seems a lot better than I thought,” “There are a lot of opportunities,” “There are jobs I didn’t know about,” and “Go to college, it is cool!”  For more information about the program, contact Carole Carlson at carlsonc@uww.edu or Beth John at johne@uww.edu. Kudos to Christian Patzka, history major, for being named — for the second year in a row — the North Region Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Patzka has had an exceptional season, winning five out of the six meets he has competed in during the 2023 campaign and securing his second consecutive North Region Championship title with a personal best time of 24:02.0. Kudos to Cristina Ballatori, associate professor of music, who was the featured guest artist last week at a recital sponsored by the University of Minnesota School of Music. Ballatori played the flute and was joined by pianist Kevin Chance to perform a program of works by Gaetano Donizetti, Valerie Coleman, Samuel Zyman and Christian Ellenwood. She has performed across the United States, Europe, England and Latin America as a recitalist, soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Read more »

Hired Before Graduation advertisement image

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Marching Band returned to Lambeau Field Sunday after a six-year absence. Spectrum News interviewed Director of Bands Glenn Hayes, who has led the UW-Whitewater band for 37 years. Their biggest crowd at Perkins Stadium has been 20,000. Hayes said playing for Lambeau’s mass of 80,000 is a sweet symphony.

#2 Men’s Warhawk Basketball tips off with Augustana

#2 Warhawk basketball team playing against Augustana College

#2 Warhawk Basketball tips off Thanksgiving Week with a matchup against Augustana College on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in Kachel Gymnasium in the Williams Center. The previous matchup last year between these teams resulted in a close victory for the Warhawks with a score of 95-90. If not able to attend, the game will be streamed on the WIAC Network.
