Dear Eagle Nation:
As we celebrate I Love Coppin Week, safety continues to be our priority here at Coppin State University, especially after recent shootings at Morgan State and Bowie State Universities that injured several people during their Homecoming celebrations.

Coppin State University stands with our sister institutions that share our commitment to uplifting generations of people, and our state, through education, hard work, and opportunity. It is despicable that anyone would think of causing anyone harm, especially during a time that is supposed to elevate our communities and highlight the very best of HBCUs.

Violence has no place on any campus and firearms are prohibited at higher education institutions in Maryland.

Here at Coppin State, we dedicate every resource we can to providing a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our community of scholars and everyone who visits our campus. Through our collective efforts, we remain one of the safest campuses in Baltimore, and continue providing our students with a safe place to learn and develop into great leaders who will make our world a better place.

For those who may be facing challenges because of the recent traumatic events, our Counseling Center provides free and confidential support and counseling to our current students. You can call 410.951.3939 or visit the Counseling Center on the first floor of the Tawes College Center. Also, if at any time you fear for your immediate safety, call 911. If you see something or someone that stands out or makes you feel unsafe, you can also call Campus Police at 410.951.3911. There are also blue light phones located across campus that will connect you with Campus Police.

I want to assure you that we are committed to taking every reasonable step to enhance the safety and security of our campus. We are continually assessing our procedures to ensure that we are prepared to respond quickly to any emergency impacting our campus community. Together, let’s commit to protecting Eagle Nation.

Faith Seawell-Campbell ('23)

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Faith Seawell-Campbell ('23) for receiving honorable mention from the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity for her work in a recent essay competition.
The 2023 essay prompt asked, “what challenges awaken your conscience?” Seawell-Campbell, a nursing major, chose to discuss the issue of human trafficking. In her essay, she drew parallels the experience of Africans who were captured and brought to the United States as slaves, and the current state of human trafficking, which some refer to as modern day slavery.
