Dear Eagle Nation:
Happy Homecoming! This week, Eagle Nation will come together to commemorate 124 years of Coppin's enduring legacy. It brings me immense joy and pride to extend a warm welcome to all alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends who will be partaking in this year's festivities.
Homecoming is more than just a series of events; it's when classmates and friends reunite to celebrate and reminisce as a family bonded by the strength of our beloved Coppin. Homecoming serves as a celebration of the intricate tapestry of our history and a testament to the enduring spirit that characterizes Coppin's culture. It is when class provides a moment for us to unite in honoring our past, rejoicing in our current achievements, and envisioning an even brighter future for Coppin.
I am scheduled to deliver the State of the University Address on Thursday, February 22. I am enthusiastic about showcasing the remarkable accomplishments of our university's students, faculty, and staff, spanning from groundbreaking research to exceptional performances in the arts. Additionally, I am eager to articulate the vision for our collective achievements in the months and years ahead. The week is brimming with exhilarating activities, heartwarming reunions, and opportunities to strengthen the distinct bonds that define our Coppin family. Whether you are a returning alum, a current student, or a friend of the university, there is something for everyone to relish.

President Jenkins Joins Governor Moore and Legislators to Address Poverty

Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins with Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller ENOUGH Act press conference
| |
| | |
President Anthony L. Jenkins attended Governor Wes Moore’s unveiling of the ENOUGH Act, a first-in-the-nation state-level effort to end concentrated poverty. The legislation will provide support and resources to address the root causes of poverty.
According to information released from the Governor’s office, the ENOUGH Act uses place-based interventions in communities with disproportionately high numbers of children living in poverty. Communities that show an ability to assess existing pathways to success, coordinate across sectors, and address challenges strategically and in a holistic manner can apply for competitive grant funding of up to $10 million per year. The program will be run through the Governor’s Office of Children.
President Jenkins played a dual role at the press conference, as leadership for Coppin and the West North Avenue Development Authority. “Coppin is the anchor institution for the revitalization of West Baltimore. And because of our anchor status it’s going to require us to address all [types of] issues. It’s not just about renovating old homes, it is a quality-of-life ecosystem,” said Dr. Jenkins.
The press conference was held at LIFE Ministries Church in Brooklyn. Others in attendance were Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller; Senate President Bill Ferguson; Speaker of the House Adrienne A. Jones; Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott; Baltimore City Councilwoman Phylicia Porter; Baltimore Community Foundation Chief Executive Officer Dr. Shanaysha Sauls; and Life Ministries Church Pastor Amin Flowers.
