| New Department of Medicine Chair |
Anne Dixon, M.A., B.M.B.Ch., professor of medicine, has been appointed chair of the Department of Medicine in the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. Dixon has been serving as interim chair since October 2022. She succeeds Polly Parsons, M.D., who was chair from 2006–2022.

| Honoring Research Excellence |
UVM and the UVM Larner College of Medicine are delighted to announce the “Dean’s Celebration of Excellence in Research,” a weeklong celebration dedicated to showcasing the research endeavors of the Larner community, scheduled from September 18 to 22, 2023.

| Boosting Vt’s Physician Pipeline |
Cliff Reilly ’24 is the inaugural recipient of a scholarship that encourages Larner medical grads to return to practice in Vermont once they’ve completed their training. The incentive aims to strengthen the physician pipeline into Vermont and attract a geographically distributed physician workforce.

The Larner College of Medicine’s Translational Global Infectious Disease Research Center (TGIR), a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), has received Phase II funding from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences. The $11.5 million award provides an additional five years of funding for this successful research program, which began in 2018.

Several UVM Cancer Center members—including Drs. Chatterjee, Cunniff, Glass, Heath, Kinsey, Masquelin, Roberts, and Toth—have recently been awarded sizable grants with direct or some component of cancer relevance. Additionally, the Cancer Center has announced Drs. Anker, Howe, Janssen-Heininger, Langevin, and Stumpff as new members of its leadership team.

Nominated by their peers for “engaging in work rooted in improving health equity, anti-racism, and community engagement,” seven members of the Class of 2024 have been selected for induction into the newly formed Larner chapter of the Aequitas Health Honor Society. The mission of Aequitas is to identify, recognize, and develop future physician leaders to address glaring health inequities.

Twenty-four members of the Larner Class of 2024 have been selected for induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) Honor Medical Society on the basis of their “demonstrated excellence in leadership, research, professionalism, service to the school and community, and clinical acumen.” Five faculty members and five residents were also inducted into AΩA.

Eighteen members of the Larner Class of 2024 have been selected for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS), recognized by their peers for their “demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service.” In addition, one student and one faculty member were selected for the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, announced in May.
