Meet Abigail Stolowski, 6th-8th grade Life Skills and Technology teacher at Toms River Intermediate South in Beachwood, NJ.
"A big part of our Life Skills Curriculum is showing the students how they can make a difference in their own lives, in their community, and in their world. The EmPowered Schools program complements our instruction perfectly as it offers the students an opportunity to impact their community in a positive way. They learn how to make positive changes in their lives and help encourage their peers to do the same. They also get an opportunity to see the direct results of these changes, which is a huge motivator.
Initially, the students were anxious to use the tools that were sent to us to complete the lighting, HVAC, and appliance audits. They really enjoyed those activities! However, as time went on, I noticed that the students were most excited about teaching their peers about the tools, and sharing the new knowledge they learned about how to conserve energy at school and at home. They were so proud of their work!"
