Dear Eagle Nation:
Summer is a special time on our campus. It is a season of growth and a promise of new beginnings. As we prepare for our 125th Anniversary fall cohort, I am filled with pride and optimism as we have received a record number of applications for Fall 2025. Students from across the nation and around the world are selecting Coppin State University, Baltimore’s hometown university, as their university of choice. Thanks to the great work of our incredible Admissions team, we have had to add additional New Student Orientation dates this summer. It is a strong start to a promising year. These future scholars, leaders, and innovators are arriving ready to embrace the Coppin experience and begin shaping their own legacies.

We are also excited to continue our Summer Academic Success Academy (SASA), a powerful initiative that provides incoming students with the academic tools, mentorship, and support needed for a strong start. Programs like SASA reflect our deep commitment to student success and our mission to empower every Eagle who walks our campus.
Coppin State University is more than a place of learning—it is a community where potential is nurtured, and dreams take flight. I look forward to all we will accomplish together this summer and beyond.

Office of Admissions Prepares for Another Successful Season

Office of Admissions Fireside chat with Dr. Jenkins
The Office of Admissions came together for its annual staff retreat, themed “Building the Future, Brick by Slate”. More than just a pause for reflection, the retreat served as a strategic reset—focusing on progress made, lessons learned, and the bold path ahead.

Staff began by reviewing key recruitment data and enrollment trends, using these insights to shape thoughtful conversations around priorities for the upcoming cycle. With a shared commitment to student success, the team reaffirmed its purpose: to welcome, support, and empower every prospective Coppin Eagle.

Creative collaboration was a cornerstone of the retreat. Through interactive activities such as the budget-focused “Coppin Cash Challenge” and the idea-driven “Stop, Start, Continue” wall, team members generated fresh solutions for outreach and operational efficiency. Despite the realities of limited resources, the energy in the room reflected a determination to move forward with innovation and impact.

A major focus of the retreat was exploring new ways to personalize outreach, deliver timely messages, and connect meaningfully with prospective students. By sharpening their insight, the team feel as if they are better positioned to meet students where they are—with the right message, at the right time.

A highlight of the retreat was a candid fireside chat with President Anthony L. Jenkins, Ph.D. With characteristic vision and warmth, President Jenkins spoke about Coppin’s mission and the central role Admissions plays in shaping the future of the university. His remarks energized the team and reinforced the importance of leading with purpose, empathy, and ambition.

By the end of the retreat, the sense of momentum was unmistakable. With renewed focus, collaborative spirit, and a deep belief in the students they serve, the Admissions team is stepping confidently into the year ahead—ready to build, connect, and help every student BE MORE.
