Dear Eagle Nation:
We are now four days away from our 2023 Commencement Ceremony. Approximately 400 of the newest graduates of Coppin State University will cross the stage on Friday, May 19. I will be there to shake their hands and congratulate them on a job well done.
Commencement is a celebration of the strength and determination they have shown to reach the end of this chapter in their personal and academic journey. Thousands of loved ones, teacher mentors who have supported, invested in, and encouraged them will come together to cheer, shed tears of joy, and wish them well as they leave our campus, and go out into the wider world to follow their dreams and put their plans in motion.
Eagle Nation, let's show up, show out, and support them.
This year’s commencement is special because it has historic significance. Maryland Governor Wes Moore will serve as our keynote speaker, delivering his first commencement address as a sitting governor. I am honored that Governor Moore accepted my invitation. He has shown himself to be a strong advocate for Coppin State and all of Maryland’s HBCUs.

    #ICYMI: Volunteering with JA Biztown

Financial literacy is important for everyone, especially our youth. Recently, our Nonprofit Leadership Scholars volunteered as mentors for sixth grade students from Lansdowne Elementary School during JA Biztown. JA Biztown, sponsored by Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town which allows elementary school students to learn more about finances and civics. During the experience, students operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor.
