A Message from President Driscoll, University Updates

Welcome back for the start of the spring semester. I hope everyone got some rest over the break and enjoyed time with family and friends.

Near the end of last semester, we held a gathering in the Blue Room to talk about the future of IUP, during which we discussed topics including finances, academic restructuring, and program reviews. While it was great to discuss these important topics, we didn’t have enough time to go into detail. That’s why we’re going to hold several similar gatherings to dive further into each subject.

All students are encouraged to attend the following events, which will be held in the Blue Room of Sutton Hall. I hope you can attend these events as your schedule permits. It is important for us as we build toward our future that we are all aware of the challenges we face and the plans we have to address them.

I look forward to another great semester and to working with you as we continue to do the good work that IUP has always stood for.

A reliable and trustworthy study partner can help make studying more enjoyable and will hold you accountable for reviewing course material regularly.

When Is the Last Day I Can Make Changes to My Spring Schedule?

Monday, January 29, is the last day of the add/drop period. The last day of the verification of attendance process is Tuesday, January 30. As part of this verification process, you might see an “N” grade listed for one or more of your classes. The “N” stands for non-participation and must be corrected if you’ve attended the class. If you have an “N” grade for a class and you have been attending, please contact the instructor to request that the “N” grade be removed.

Big Basketball Doubleheaders Coming Up!

All are invited to the KCAC to attend the women’s basketball game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, versus Slippery Rock, followed at 3:00 p.m. with the men’s team, which will also face up against the Rock.

Also, on Monday, January 29, the Crimson Hawks will go head-to-head in another doubleheader against California University. The women play at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. Talons Up!

Considering Going Greek? Here Are Some Important Not-to-Miss Events!

Spring Sorority Recruitment Registration: From Monday, December 11, until Wednesday, January 31.
Spring Sorority 2024 Primary Recruitment: from Wednesday, January 31, until Sunday, February 11.
Come to the Interfraternity Council’s Open House! Students interested in pledging a fraternity are encouraged to attend the Interfraternity Council’s spring kick-off event on Monday, January 29, at 6:00 p.m. in the HUB, Ohio Room. IUP’s nine social fraternities will be there to tell you all about the fraternity community.
Interested students (who are pledging a sorority) are encouraged to sign up via CampusDirector.

All Students Can Make Meaningful Relationships Through Project Connect

Are big events overwhelming? Is meeting new people a challenge? Do you prefer low-key, no-pressure events? Then, Project Connect is right up your alley! Join the Office of Student Wellness and Engagement, the Student Government Association, and the UC Peer Mentors starting on January 29 for various dates and times during the first four weeks of the semester to connect with your classmates in a no-pressure atmosphere.

Keep yourself physically and mentally healthy at the Center for Health and Well-Being.

STAR Method

Behavioral interview questions have become increasingly common. These questions sound like “tell me about a time when” or “share an example of.” We suggest you use the STAR method to answer these questions—start with explaining the situation and task at hand, discuss the action you took, and then wrap up with what happened/the results.

Our Mock Interview Program allows students to experience what it’s like to complete an interview and receive feedback so they know what to improve upon when it’s the real deal. If you’re interested in learning more, reach out to career-development@iup.edu.

India Culture Dance

Join the India Students Association every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in Zink Hall, Dance Studio, to learn and practice an Indian culture dance that will be performed at the Asian Music Festival.
