Conference Leadership Receives Award

This year’s State Conservationist Partnership Award was presented to the Arkansas Soil and Water Education Conference and Irrigation Expo Steering Committee, founded by Dr. Tina Teague (right), professor of professor of entomology and plant science. She and associates, who conducted the first conference in 1998, recently concluded their 28th in the series. A-State-affiliated personnel who also provide conference leadership are Dr. Ray Benson, Dr. Jennifer Bouldin, Dr. Steve Green, Dr. Michele Reba and Spring Sneed.

Bruce Presents Two Research Projects

Dr. Scott Bruce, professor of athletic training, made two presentations to the seventh Biennial Veterans in Society Conference in Chicago. Bruce, who represents the research team for the Veterans’ Suicide Prevention Project, discussed a pilot study of the relationship between concussion, combat history and PTSD on mental health and suicide ideation among U.S. military veterans. He also covered the effect of concussion history on perceptual decision making in military veterans.

 

Marketing, Communications Team Wins Seven Addy Awards

Members of the Division of Marketing and Communications staff won seven American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) in competition conducted by the Northeast Arkansas chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Publications and Creative Services team members who worked on the winning entries are Mary Melton and Lourdes Hernandez. Digital Creative Media team members who worked on the winning entries are Andy Geswein, Carla Wehmeyer, Dario Ponce and Kenzi Cutler. More details are online. The awards recognize outstanding creative achievement in a number of categories.

 

Segall is Co-Author with Walmart Official

Dr. Richard Segall, professor of information systems and business analytics, is co-author of an article published in the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business and Management. The other co-author is Arjun Kaarat, head of data science at Walmart. Their article is titled “Unified Federated AI Framework for Credit Scoring: For Privacy, Fairness, and Scalability.” Kaarat evaluated half a million credit records with federated learning, a decentralized machine-learning approach.

 

Rabbi Presents Three Conference Papers

Three papers by Fazla Rabbi, instructor in engineering management, and graduate student Ifaz Ahmed were accepted for publication and presentation at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE) annual conference. The paper topics include early detection of chronic kidney disease, projecting soccer players’ injury risk in the next season, and detecting wildfires for sustainable environmental management, all through the use of machine learning and deep learning algorithms.
