It was a busy and productive summer for the Workday project team as it wrapped up the Readiness & Plan phase and launched into the Architect & Configure phase. As one of the newest members of the team, I have been impressed by colleagues in IT, HR, and Finance who have been deeply involved in training and meetings, partnering with Huron to learn the new system and set the stage for our next significant phase: Test & Train!
I extend gratitude to the roughly 130 employees integral to this project. Your contributions are pivotal to our success.

This month the project team gathered to launch the second phase of the Workday implementation known as “Architect & Configure.” During this stage, the team will design, configure, and unit test Workday, conduct playback sessions for campus, and build integrations and reports. Architect & Configure will continue into January 2025 and will be followed by Test & Train.

In August, the Matoaka Woods room at W&M’s School of Education was filled with nearly 100 members of Information Technology, Finance, Budget and Human Resources for the Workday Kickoff Event. The project team was joined by representatives from Huron Consulting Group and Workday as well as President Katherine A. Rowe and Executive Vice President for Finance & Administration Mike Todd.

Meet your training leads! You may have already interacted with Ghana Smith and/or Nick Artime for training at W&M in some capacity, and we are thrilled that they will be part of the team leading the university through this change. Ghana and Nick are working diligently to build a training plan, including help documentation, videos, in-person training sessions, and more! We appreciate everyone who took the time to provide feedback on the End-user Readiness Survey. This survey will be deployed at least two more times throughout the project to help us get a pulse on how effective our communication and activities are. We took the most frequently asked questions in the open response portion of the survey and added them to the FAQ on the Workday website.
