Join us for a day of presentations, a community resource fair and 1-on-1 consultations on your assessment and personal budgeting, all focused on building financial empowerment for the whole family.
Presentations will feature the following topics:
Property Tax Essentials: Assessor Torres will discuss key updates from our Office, Proposition 13 and assessment basics, Proposition 19 and intergenerational transfers, as well as how to request a temporary decline-in-value.
Estate Planning 101: Housing and Economic Rights Advocates (HERA), a non-profit legal service organization and key partner in Assessor Torres' Estate Planning Program, will discuss the importance of planning across all stages of your life to ensure that your intentions are honored and help your family build wealth from one generation to the next. In addition to receiving an introduction to core elements of an estate plan, such as a living trust, will, advanced healthcare directive and power of attorney, there will also be opportunities to receive referrals to affordable legal services.
Navigating Homeowners Insurance Crisis: Ramona Johanneson, Area Vice President at Gallagher Risk Management, will discuss the current homeowners insurance crisis in California, including what’s driving policy non-renewals and the shrinking number of coverage options. From how to improve the insurability of your home to factors that impact underwriting decisions, and what to look for when buying a home to make sure it can be insured (and at what cost), this session will help you make informed decisions about your insurance needs in today’s market.
The resource fair will include organizations such as:
