A summer of discovery and renewal |
Colleagues,
We are halfway through summer, which I hope has been a season of rest, rejuvenation, and perhaps a touch of academic exploration.
This summer brings a vibrant mix of activity to Maverick Country. Our research labs hum with ongoing projects pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Dedicated faculty continue their scholarly pursuits and mentor students engaged in summer research programs. Our libraries offer a haven for independent study, while summer courses provide enriching opportunities for intellectual growth. In addition, we are welcoming new students and their families to orientation in anticipation of the fall semester, and hosting numerous camps designed to engage local youth and the Arlington community.
Whether you're traversing new landscapes, delving into a captivating book, or tackling a challenging research project, I encourage you to embrace the spirit of discovery that defines UTA. We look forward to welcoming back our entire community for a dynamic fall semester brimming with fresh possibilities.
In the meantime, I invite you to explore the exciting news and updates featured in this summer newsletter. May your summer be filled with joy, exploration, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Warmly,
Tamara L. Brown, Ph.D.
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

The Division of Student Success (DSS) has partnered with the First Scholars Network, powered by the Center for First-generation Student Success. It's a national model for scaling holistic first-generation student success by engaging and empowering higher education institutions to transform the first-generation student experience, advance academic and co-curricular outcomes, and build more inclusive institutional structures.
Five UTA leadership team members (Tasha Talton, Jennifer Luken Sutton, Joanna Merritt, David Eberhardt, and Ashley Purgason) attended the First Scholars Leadership Academy. With the support of UTA leadership, DSS is excited to continue these great efforts and work through the phases of the First Scholars program to become a Champion Campus for first-gen students.
First-gen professionals are invited to join the First-Gen Professionals Employee Resource Group. Event details for National First-Gen Celebration Day, scheduled for Nov. 8, are forthcoming.
