SEPTEMBER BUS SERVICE CHANGES
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, Golden Gate Transit will make service changes to match customer demand and improve connections after the implementation of MASCOTS in April 2026.
In response to growing rider demand for express commute service from Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park to San Francisco, Golden Gate Transit will reinstate the Route 172X on weekdays. Beginning Monday, September 14, 2026, the Route 172X will offer two express trips between Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, and downtown San Francisco during the morning and evening commutes.
Beginning Friday, September 18, 2026, Golden Gate Transit will also reduce express commute bus service on Fridays only. Golden Gate Transit ridership continues to grow year-over-year since the pandemic, however commute-hour ridership on Fridays remains significantly lower than the rest of the week. In response to shifting customer demand, Golden Gate Transit will run adjusted commute schedules on Fridays with fewer express commute trips. Most Golden Gate Transit commute express routes will see a reduction of one morning and one afternoon trip on Fridays, while Route 172 will see a reduction of two trips in each direction.
Golden Gate Transit regional bus service, which serves local trips within Marin and Sonoma counties and off-peak travel to/from San Francisco, is not affected by the Friday schedule changes and will operate the same schedule Monday through Friday.
The September service changes also include minor schedule adjustments to improve southbound connections under MASCOTS.
