The Innovation Set-Aside invites bold, creative ideas that may not always be achievable through the traditional 9% Tax Credit round. IFA is seeking innovative proposals that showcase new approaches to serving targeted populations, operations, partnerships, data-driven decision-making, data sharing, affordability, construction methods, energy efficiency, financing structures and other forward-thinking strategies.
The most competitive projects will demonstrate multiple innovations while aligning with the mission and goals of Iowa’s Federal Housing Tax Credit Program, including collaboration, long-term affordability, durability and location.
Finalists will be invited to pitch their concepts to a panel of experts at the 2026 HousingIowa Conference in Des Moines on September 10. The selected project will have the opportunity to be awarded federal housing tax credits to help bring innovative housing solutions to life in an Iowa community.
