Johns Hopkins APL Plays Pivotal Role in Successful FTX-23 Missile Defense Test

In cooperation with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Navy, APL played a critical role in the successful execution of Flight Test Other-23. The February test demonstrated sensor tracking and communications link capabilities of the Aegis Weapon System.

Dragonfly Mission Confirmed for 2028 Launch to Saturn’s Moon Titan

NASA’s Dragonfly mission to Saturn’s moon Titan has been confirmed, enabling the mission to progress through its final design and eventual construction and testing. The game-changing mission, equipped with a mobile eight-rotored lander that will fly autonomously, will advance our understanding of the chemical origins of life and explore dozens of locations on Titan.

APL is developing a suite of solutions, including coral engineering, eDNA analysis and climate intelligence, that work together to improve long-term resilience at the coastline.

In a recent scientific paper published in the journal The Lancet Microbe, researchers harnessed tools developed by APL to shed light on the origins of an Ebola virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Atlantic Coastal Resilience Workshop

The Atlantic Coastal Resilience Workshop has a goal of bringing together academia, industry, government and nonprofits to forge a path forward in strategic development of coastal resilience in the Atlantic region. By building up our coastlines against the rapidly approaching, catastrophic effects of climate change, our coastal ecosystems, infrastructure and communities will be able to “bounce back” from disruptive events, which is of emerging importance for dense cities, military bases and critical infrastructure, and essential ecosystem resources.

Defense Leaders Gen. David Berger, Adm. Charles Richard Join APL as Senior Fellows

Two distinguished military leaders and strategists — Gen. (retired) David Berger and Adm. (retired) Charles “Chas” Richard — have joined the team of Senior Fellows at APL.

Gen. (retired) David Berger (left), the 38th commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, has joined APL as a Senior Fellow. Adm. (retired) Charles “Chas” Richard (right), former commander of U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), has also joined APL as a Senior Fellow. Senior Fellows work with technical experts at the Laboratory to better inform technology and policy decisions made by U.S. military leaders and senior government officials.
