Dear Eagle Nation,
Last week, I was honored to attend the Baltimore Business Journal CEO of the Year & the Power 10 Award Ceremony, where our Chancellor Jay A. Perman, M.D., was named CEO of the Year. It was a moment of pride, not just for me, but for all of Coppin State, as I was also recognized as one of the Power 10 honorees.
This honor reflects the dedication and hard work of our entire Coppin community. It showcases the strength and spirit that define our leadership, faculty, staff, and students as One Coppin.
There is so much more ahead of us, and I am confident we will continue to build on this momentum, making an even greater impact together.

2024 Mentoring for Success Event Advances Nursing Education and Equity

Coppin State University's Helene Fuld School of Nursing and Morgan State University co-hosted the 2024 Mentoring for Success with Schools of Nursing on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and Wednesday, Sept. 11.
This program continues efforts initiated in 2018 by the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action—an initiative supported by the AARP Foundation, AARP, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health. It focuses on improving retention, graduation, and NCLEX passage rates among underserved students enrolled in nursing programs at HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, and American Indian and Alaska Native-serving institutions.
With over 300 attendees, the event featured interactive workshops and panel discussions where participants learned to enhance their grant writing skills, optimize NCLEX preparation and student remediation, promote health equity initiatives, and reinvigorate mentoring programs.

Coppin Volleyball recently hosted a special Educator’s Day, welcoming elementary and middle school students to join us for a thrilling game against Penn State. This event gave young students a chance to experience the excitement of collegiate athletics, while also celebrating the impact of educators in our community.

Congratulations to Sky Carter ('28), Coppin State Tennis freshman and Biology major, as well as a recipient of the Fanny Jackson Coppin Scholarship, for winning her singles flight at the Bedford Cup.
What an incredible way to start your collegiate career, Sky. We are eager to see all the amazing accomplishments that lie ahead for you this season—this is just the beginning.
Sky is also the 2023 Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA) Mixed Doubles Champion from Walter Johnson High School.
