Helpful Here and Away from Home
Two members of Colonial Nation spent time during their summer break helping others. Thrya Broadnax and Kacia Terry traveled to Trinidad on a medical missionary trip with an organization called Hands International. These ladies spent a week working at a community hospital, and also visited a school where they helped with screening children for ADHD and autism spectrum disorders. WE commend these ladies for their wonderful volunteer work!
What a Pleasant Surprise!
Billy Penn showed up at Pleasantville to greet kindergarten students on the first day of school, and so did photographers from 6ABC and CBS3. WDEL radio also covered the story. What a great way to start the school year! Click to view:
Canaan Baptist Church made the first day of school extra special for the Mustangs. Members greeted students as they entered the building, but that's not all. The church donated $5,000 to the school for student supplies and initiatives. Community partnerships are so important.
WE are thankful!
Riding with Wilmington Manor
Members of the Delaware chapter of the Rare Breed Motorcycle Club rolled up to Wilmington Manor with $500 in hygiene products and shoes for students. Special thanks go out to President Russ (Hustle) Warren, Treasurer Wayne (Casual) Wilson, and Walter (Locs) James for making the special delivery. WE love support from community organizations!
HBCU Week
HBCU Week brought graduates from historically Black colleges and universities to William Penn for a panel discussion with our scholars. Many students attended a college fair where HBCU representatives from around the country offered college acceptance letters and scholarships to our kids on the spot. Congrats to our college-bound students!
Band Day Fun
Students across all grade levels gathered for Band Day at a recent William Penn football game. The kids scored big with the crowd and loved making music together.
WE are Busy
A William Penn field hockey car wash, senior sunrise gathering, football play-by-play action in the booth, along with a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at Wilbur, all made for a busy time of fun and fellowship in Colonial Nation.
WE Care
The Power of WE was in full gear as Colonial employees and families collected more than 1000 gently used books that were donated to the Hope Center for unhoused residents. School Board member Phila Breeding led the drive in collaboration with the local Lions Club.
Spirit Day Southern Style
Crazy Hat Day was the first Spirit Day of the school year for Southern, and as usual, students and staff had a blast!
