Barnhouse Presents Research Seminar |
Dr. Lucy Barnhouse, assistant professor of history, was invited to present her article in progress at a seminar conducted by the history department at Johns Hopkins University. She spoke on her current project regarding Nazi medievalism and the role of propaganda about medieval history in the occupation of Poland. She also met with graduate students and colleagues in related fields. Barnhouse studies the intersections of law, religion and medicine in late medieval Germany.

| Leslies Research Gamification and Learning |
A research study Dr. H. Steve Leslie, associate professor of business communication and associate dean, and Dr. Natalie A. Johnson-Leslie, professor of secondary education, has been published in the Journal of Research in Business Education. In their case study of 700 students, the Leslies examined the use of gamification to enhance learning in business education classes. Their results demonstrate the instructional value of gamified learning tools.

Paper by Fortson and Accounting Faculty is Published
|
A paper by Melanie Fortson, a recent graduate of the Master of Accountancy degree program, and three accounting faculty members — Dr. Steven Muzatko, associate professor and Bowdon Endowed Chair, Dr. Hrishikesh Desai, associate professor, and Dr. James Doering, professor and Schaaf Distinguished Chair — has been published in the Journal of Forensic Accounting. Their paper examines factors that influence an offender’s decision to confess to fraud, and a victim’s decision to refer information to authorities.

Vinson Selected for PROPS Award |
Larry Vinson, supervisor and skilled tradesman, HPESS Building, received the PROPS (Proudly Recognizing our Pack Staff) Award for November. An A-State staff member for more than 17 years, Vinson was recognized for his outstanding work ethic and dedication to keeping the building running well, along with making it a comfortable space for the students who use the building. PROPS winners are selected by a Staff Senate subcommittee. Details are online.

Moore Speaks on Historic Airfield Coverage |
Tom Moore, director, University Communications, spoke to the Lawrence County Historical Society about his research into newspaper coverage of the Army Air Forces Basic Flying School at Walnut Ridge during World War II. Moore presented Arkansas Gazette clippings from 1942 to 1944, accessed through Ellis Library, that document the rapid development of the airfield and stories of the military and civilian personnel who served there.
