One of the goals of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering's Center for Student Success is to consolidate the emails and announcements sent to students. The Advising Bulletin will be shared monthly by the department to highlight important academic deadlines, department news, upcoming events, scholarship, career, internship and conference opportunities and more. Engineering students looking for a unique hands-on summer paid internship in Naval ship design, the Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) at the Center for Innovation in Ship Design (CISD) may be just what they're looking for. Environmental Engineering Field Inspector, WSP |
WSP is currently hiring an Environmental Field Inspector in their Valhalla, NY office. Duties include: providing oversight of investigation and remediation activities, preparing daily activity reports, overseeing and logging soil borings and monitoring wells, conducting multimedia environmental sampling and monitoring and interpreting the results, and performing project research and data gathering. 2024-2025 CEOE Undergraduate Conference Scholarship |
|
|
The department is excited to announce the CEOE Undergraduate Conference Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year to cover up to $500 per scholarship application. Students must be currently enrolled juniors or seniors in a major within CEOE.
Each application must be accompanied by:
|

|
- Preliminary proposal of what will be presented (minimum of 200 words)
- Support letter by a full-time faculty member in the CEOE department (minimum of 100 words)
- Expected costs
- Justification of attendance (minimum of 100 words)
|
|
|
All application materials are due at least one month before the conference's earliest deadline.
All work must be supervised by at least one full-time faculty member of the CEOE department, and they must be listed as co-author.
Please submit all application materials in one file to Prof. Sarath Jagupilla (sjagupil@stevens.edu). The applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by a committee.

Scholarship Opportunities |
|
|
SMART scholars, through the Department of Defense (DoD), offers scholarships for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students currently pursuing a degree in one of the 24 STEM disciplines. SMART scholars receive full tuition, annual stipends, and guaranteed employment with the DoD after graduation. The scholarship is due December 15. Additional information is available here.

Professional Ethics in Engineering Seminar
|
Description: This seminar explores the important role of ethical principles in guiding engineers' decisions and actions. It emphasizes the importance of integrity, accountability, and public safety in professional practice. Participants will discuss moral dilemmas, and the responsibilities engineers have to society, their profession, and the environment. The seminar aims to equip students with the tools and frameworks needed to navigate complex ethical challenges in their future careers.

Construction Industry Advancement Program (CIAP) Summer Internship and Scholarship Information Session
|
Description: Learn about the internship and scholarship opportunity in the construction field. This is open to all sophomore and junior-level students. The internship and scholarship application will open September 15 and is due October 15 here.

CEOE Fall Celebration BBQ
|
Description: Mingle with your CEOE peers and faculty, while enjoying food and games to celebrate the start of the academic year.
Date: Wednesday, September 25
Time: Stop by anytime from 1:30 - 4:00 pm
Location: UCC Terrace (first floor outside of the TechFlex)

Note: This event is only open to current CEOE faculty, staff and undergraduate students. Attendees may not bring guests from outside of the department.

Description: Attendees will be traveling to Astoria, NY via bus and will have the opportunity to weld, flame-cut, use bolting stations, tie rebar, and climb a column. The tour runs approx. two hours and students can expect brief remarks covering what ironworkers do and safety information before the activities begin. This is a great opportunity to learn first hand how industry works closely with steel used to rebuild infrastructure.

Estimated Return Time: 2:30 pm. Pizza will be served upon arrival back to campus.

Description: Students will be guided on a walking tour of the construction site of the new Portal North Bridge, a $1.56 bil NJ TRANSIT/AMTRAK project with JV Skanska/Traylor Bros. Students will receive an up-close, open-air classroom opportunity to see a number of building concepts and technical challenges in various stages of construction.

Sustainability Seminar Series

The Hugo Neu Corporation Sustainability Seminar Series, organized by the MS program in Sustainability Management, is an effort to connect students to professionals in the field of sustainability. This is a weekly series sponsored by Hugo Neu Corporation and jointly sponsored by Geosyntec Consultants. Cosponsors are Brown and Caldwell, Lozier Inc., The Catalyst Group, and H2M Architects and Engineers. The seminars happen every Tuesday between 5-6pm via Zoom. Elizabeth Halton, civil engineering junior, was accepted into the DAAD RISE Program where she was sponsored to pursue an internship at a Germany university. During the summer she worked on a project studying 3D printing with concrete at Hochschule München in Munich, Germany.
|
Hailey Achille and James Johnsen, civil engineering seniors, are the recipients of the 2024 Moles Scholarship. Each student will receive a $12,500 scholarship. They were selected based on their strong academic achievement and demonstrated interest in the heavy construction industry.
|
Cleo Shannon, naval engineering senior, was recently recognized as the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week for her achievements on the Stevens Women's Volleyball team.
|
Tristan Wroe, environmental engineering sophomore, was recently recognized as the MAC Freedom Player of the Week for his accomplishments on the Stevens Men's Tennis team.
