The 2024 growing season provided our crops in most of Wisconsin with plenty of water. In spots, too much water accumulated and led to drowned out spots and in some cases even entire fields. In spots, these areas were re-planted. In other areas, troublesome weeds like waterhemp are quickly escaping and will likely produce plenty of seed before a killing frost occurs. Read more here.

Open to all producers, these workshops are designed for growers who manage small to mid-scale diversified farm operations with a particular focus on supporting beginning and/or underserved farmers. The field day site is the site of a clover cover crop research project being undertaken in multiple locations, as well as having been planted to the host farm's mix after a winter wheat crop. Discussion will focus on cover crop benefits, opportunities, and realities from UW and NRCS aspects. Potential issues of cover crops on future crops will also be discussed. More information here.

Specialty and Emerging Crops Program Manager
The Specialty and Emerging Crop Program Manager is an exciting, new position meant to provide leadership and programming to Wisconsin's fruit, vegetable, and emerging crop growers within Extension's Crops and Soils Program. The Program Manager will work with Extension faculty and staff and the state's agricultural producers to understand the fruit, vegetable, and emerging crop production-related challenges on Wisconsin farms in order to create connections, identify needs, and develop and maintain robust, high-quality outreach education programs. Pest Management Outreach Specialist
The Pest Management Outreach Specialist position will spend part of the year (December-March) training commercial and private pesticide applicators in the state of Wisconsin for the purpose of certification. This position will also maintain and update training materials and curriculum. For the remainder of the year, the Pest Management Outreach Specialist will identify priority educational needs in the state related to managing pests in agricultural systems and the judicious, effective and efficient use of pesticides.
