Step Twelve in Action:
Ensure Hope Is Within Reach
|
During warmer weather, travelers and newcomers often search for Al‑Anon support in unfamiliar places. When someone seeks an Al‑Anon meeting, whether in person or virtually, accurate information becomes their lifeline. Keeping your group’s meeting time, location, virtual links, and Phone Contact for the Public details up to date is Step Twelve in action.
“When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, let the hand of Al‑Anon and Alateen always be there, and—Let It Begin with Me.”

The New Service Manual Is Here!
|
For 75 years, Al‑Anon Family Groups have relied on shared principles to maintain unity and resolve group problems. The Al‑Anon/Alateen Service Manual (P‑24/27) continues that tradition by providing a clear and concise picture of the Al‑Anon fellowship and its purpose and functions. It illustrates principles to help resolve group challenges and foster unity.
The latest edition of the Al‑Anon/Alateen Service Manual is available! Get yours today in print, as an ebook, a flip book, or a PDF on al‑anon.org. You can also find it under the “Resources” tab on the Al‑Anon Family Groups Mobile App.

Is My Al-Anon Group a Nonprofit?
|
Wondering if your group is a nonprofit? It isn’t.
Al‑Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. (AFG, Inc.), also known as the World Service Office (WSO), is registered as a tax‑exempt, not‑for‑profit corporation under Sec. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. The individual Al‑Anon Family Groups that make up our fellowship are not incorporated. Groups cannot use the WSO tax ID to open bank accounts, and the WSO has no authority over a group’s funds.
To learn why groups don’t qualify for nonprofit status, read “Incorporation/Taxes” in the “Digest of Al‑Anon/Alateen Policies” in the Al‑Anon/Alateen Service Manual (P‑24/27). To learn the difference between Al‑Anon Family Groups (the fellowship) and Al‑Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. (the organization), see page 13 of the 2014 World Service Conference Summary (P‑46), available online.

“Years ago, I walked into Al‑Anon. I had exhausted all my ideas and energy trying to defeat my husband’s alcoholism, which I considered a weakness of character. I tried to keep it a secret within our four walls. I lost courage when, to my chagrin, he publicly displayed uncontrolled drunken behavior…”

In February, May, August, and November, the Quarterly Appeal gives each member an opportunity to participate individually in Twelfth‑Step work beyond the group level.
