DEAN'S OFFICE

  • SES held its inaugural school-wide Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT) on April 3, joining a global competition that takes place at over 900 institutions worldwide. Fifteen students across eight departments competed in the final for a chance to move on to the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools regional competition.

    Congratulations to all of our winners below:
    • Rana Ibrahim, advised by Hongjun Wang, won the 1st place prize of $1K for the topic "Biomimetic Channeled Scaffolds for Volumetric Bone Regeneration."
    • Meng Ji, advised by Xiaoguang Meng, won the 2nd place prize of $500 for the topic "Removal of Perfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAs) From Water Using Iron Particles."
    • Matangi P R, advised by Hongjun Wang, won the 3rd place prize of $250 for the topic "Oxidative Stress Alleviation in Diabetic Wounds Using Biomimetic Nanoscale Scaffolds."
    • Ralf Zgeib, advised by Robert Chang, won the People's Choice Award prize of $250 for the topic "Multi-Material Gradient Bioprinting."

  • SES Task Force on the Creation of Undergraduate AI Major and AI Minor is formed with the following members:

  • SES Events 
    • Mathematical Olympiad will take place on Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. on campus.
    • Faculty Retreat will take place on Tuesday, May 13, from 12:00–4:30 p.m. on campus.
    • Order of the Engineer undergraduate induction ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 20, from 4:00–6:00 p.m in the DeBaun Auditorium. This is our largest induction yet and will include Stevens Trustees, faculty, alumni, and over 300 members of the graduating Class of 2025. Seating is limited, please contact Dakota Van Deursen if you wish to celebrate this achievement.
 
  • Stevens Events 
    • Stevens Innovation Expo will take place on campus Friday, May 9, from 9:00 a.m.–6:15 p.m. Visit the event webpage to learn more.
    • Stevens Commencement will be held on Wednesday, May 21 at the PNC Bank Arts Center. All are encouraged to attend and take part in the celebrations. Click here for detailed information about the ceremonies.

Alexei Miasnikov (MS), Jan Cannizzo (MS), Michael Zabarankin (MS)

Alexei Miasnikov (PI), MS Professor; Jan Cannizzo (Co-PI), MS Teaching Associate Professor; and Michael Zabarankin (Co-PI), MS Professor and Department Chair, received the Nebius AI award of $176K for their project “Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics Education.”

Pin-Kuang Lai (CEMS)

Pin-Kuang Lai (PI), CEMS Assistant Professor, received a Janssen Research & Development award of $150K for his project “Next Generation Viscosity Prediction for Molecular Liability Reduction and Multi-Parameter Optimization Development.”

Ping Wang (PI), CS Assistant Professor, received an Amazon Research Award of $100K for her project “Leveraging Large Language Models for Reasoning Augmented Searching on Domain-Specific NoSQL Database.”

2025 Johnson&Johnson Engineering Showcase Winner

Panteha Behboodi, CEMS Ph.D. student advised by Woo Lee, won 2nd place at the 2025 Johnson&Johnson Engineering Showcase for her poster project "Optimizing Multiple Myeloma Treatment."

Audience Choice Award Winner

Zahava Hirsch, BME Ph.D. student advised by Antonia Zaferiou, won the Audience Choice Award for her 3-minute talk during Nokia Bell Labs' 100th anniversary celebration. She presented in front of Nobel laureates and Turing Awardees.

Critical Language Scholarship Winner

Isabel Sutedjo, CS undergraduate student, won the Critical Language Scholarship to study Korean in Busan. She is also a semi-finalist for the Fulbright Fellowship in South Korea and aims to integrate intercultural knowledge into her future career as a project manager in tech.

US Congressional Gold Medal Winner

Smera Venkateswar, BME undergraduate student, received the prestigious award for her long-term community service over the last two years and has been invited to the 2025 Gold Medal Summit in Washington, DC this June, where she will be honored by members of Congress in person.

Planing Hull Championship Winners

The following members of Stevens' Electric Boat Team are winners of the Planing Hull Championship at the ASNE PEP Competition: ME undergraduate students Jack Ceriello and Liam Ruane; and CEOE undergraduate students Jack Falen, Emily Lossman, Oscar McMahan, Luke Saletta, Ellie Yu and Peter Zmijewski.

Stevens SAE BAJA Club Rowan Rumble 2025

On March 29, the Stevens SAE Baja team test drove two new vehicles at Rowan University in Mullica Hill, NJ, to assess their design and make improvements before their major competition. The event also helped younger team members hone problem-solving skills and learn about vehicle and technical inspections.
