Employee of the MonthBen Lenio
Congratulations to our February Employee of the Month, Ben! Ben has been working at Active Wellness Center Petaluma for about a year now and especially enjoys spending time at the pool. āI love swimming so being able to work in the pool is awesome,ā he says. Benās motivation comes from a passion for keeping healthy and also working out with his friends. One thing heād love our members to know is that heās always open to conversation. āItās very rewarding to work here.ā Ben loves making connections with our members and remembers fondly one particular instance where one of his students brought in kindergarten school pictures just to show them to him. āI realized how much of an impact I have on my lessons,ā he recalls. Way to go, Ben!

Member of the MonthMichelle Maestri
Michelle has been a member of Active Wellness Center Petaluma since 2010. Her favorite activity at the club is the Zone classes. The Zone coaches know Michelle by her relentless work ethic and consistency. Rumor has it that she is so consistent with her workouts that when she does miss a class, she gets calls from the coach just to make sure she is alright. Michelle stays consistent with her workouts because she finds staying active beneficial for her mental and physical health. She stays motivated by the camaraderie in Zone classes and the great trainers that continue to challenge her. She also enjoys the variety of workouts that Zone classes offer. Outside of the gym, Michelle enjoys being outdoors but especially loves exploring all the great hiking trails and beaches Sonoma County has to offer. She is also a big sports fan. Her favorite teams are the SF Giants, 49ers, and Warriors. Go Bay Area!

Remembering
Joan Bennett
A tribute to our friend Joan, by Trainer, Holly Wick:
"I knew Joan Bennett for over 25 years. Not surprisingly, I met Joan at a gym where I was working as a trainer. We bonded over the love of running, cycling, fitness and dogs. When a new club opened in town, now called Active Wellness Center Petaluma, I moved over as an instructor and Joan followed. She loved cycling and spin but eventually gave those up to focus more on her running and CrossFit.
Joan ran all of the local 5Ks, 10Ks and even a few half marathons. It was common for Joan to win or place in her age group. Nancy, her best friend, was her training partner. Joan participated or volunteered at every Clo Cow event, Petalumaās big running event. She will be honored at this yearās event!
Joan used to love aging up into a new age group. Iām so sorry she wonāt get a chance to race as an 80-year-old. By her presence at events, she motivated so many runners to keep with their fitness goals. At the club, Joan participated in many of the classes and made the club her second home. When she wasnāt working out, Joan was volunteering at the animal shelter.Ā It was a pleasure to know this beautiful spirit and she will be missed but will remain in our hearts."
