FRANZ

FRANZ film still
Czech Republic/Poland/Germany/France/Turkey, 2025, Agnieszka Holland

How do you present the life of an ordinary man who lived an ordinary life while being an extraordinary writer? The answer for Agnieszka Holland (Green Border) is to cut back and forth through time, to present key moments from Kafka’s childhood and adult life and juxtapose them with scenes present day Prague and Max Brod’s attempts to smuggle Kafka’s unpublished works out of Nazi controlled Czechoslovakia in the 1939. FRANZ is Poland's Official Entry to the 98th Academy Awards. Subtitles. 127 min.

NO PICNIC

NO PICNIC film still
USA, 1986, Philip Hartman

A cinematic love letter to a pre-gentrification New York City. Philip Hartman’s NO PICNIC is a priceless artifact of New York’s pre-gentrification East Village that follows down-and-out jukebox operator Macabee Cohn, played with deadpan melancholy by David Brisbin, who wanders the cheap tenements, dive bars, and derelict streets of the East Village in search of a mysterious woman in a striped dress. This neo-noir comedy features appearances by Steve Buscemi, Richard Hell, Luis Guzmán, and other fixtures of the Downtown music and art scenes. “A forgotten eighties NYC movie is back, scuzzier and better than ever. No Picnic captures New York’s boho hipster Lower East Side on the edge of Reagan-era gentrification — and a new restoration just saved it from obscurity.” – David Fear, Rolling Stone. “A priceless artifact… gorgeously evocative.” – Museum of Modern Art. 86 min.

DO YOU LOVE ME

DO YOU LOVE ME film still
Lebanon/France/Germany/Qatar, 2026, Lana Daher

Made in close collaboration with editor and co-writer Qutaiba Barhamji (editor of Kaouther Ben Hania's Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize-winning The Voice of Hind Rajab and the Oscar-nominated Four Daughters), DO YOU LOVE ME, Daher's playful and personal journey through Lebanon’s audiovisual memory, is composed entirely of archival footage. It is a love letter to Beirut, spanning 70 years of film, TV, home videos, and photography, exploring the Lebanese collective psyche – marked by joy and intimacy, destruction and loss. Through the eyes of citizens, filmmakers and artists, the film reconstructs a fragmented history in a country without a national archive, celebrating creative expression as both resistance, renewal and a way to preserve memory. "As heartbreaking as it is celebratory, and as reflective as it is brimming with resistance." —Sarah Ward, AWFJ. Subtitles. 75 min.
