We are looking for your input to help shape the future of computing at WashU. We are exploring interest in the research community at WashU for managing computational workflows executed on local infrastructure (e.g., High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters) as well as third-party cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure). This survey aims to understand your current practices, challenges, and needs. Your responses will help us assess potential solutions that meet the diverse requirements of our research community. If you have a valid @wustl.edu email address you are eligible to complete the survey.

Dr. Schwartz and his lab have a goal to personalize medicine for children at risk for serious bacterial infections. Using the ICTS Innovation award funding they are investigating preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) who are at highest risk of sepsis because of immature skin and gut barriers. While awaiting results of standard bacterial cultures for sepsis, infants are treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics, which are often continued when no bacterial infection is identified. This process disrupts the gut microbiome and increases the risk of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection. Their project will use rapid sequencing of the gut microbiome to provide personalized antibiotic recommendations to minimally disrupt the gut microbiome and treat potential bacterial infections. These results could usher in an era of personalized antibiotic stewardship. Follow Dr. Schwartz's research profile to see where this work leads.

The NIH has new Data Policies in place for genomic data sharing. WashU is working to help you navigate these changes. The Research Computing Users Group is gathering input on restricted data usage, data management practices, and preparedness for the new NIH Genomic Data Sharing (GDS) Policy (NOT-OD-24-157). Provide feedback to help improve services and support compliance with the policy.
