Welcome to the Fall 2025 Semester |
One of the goals of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering's Center for Student Success is to consolidate the emails and announcements sent to students. The Advising Bulletin will be shared monthly by the department to highlight important academic deadlines, department news, upcoming events, scholarship, career, internship and conference opportunities and more. Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) at the Center for Innovation in Ship Design |
Engineering students looking for a unique hands-on summer paid internship in Naval ship design, the Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) at the Center for Innovation in Ship Design (CISD) may be just what they're looking for. The deadline to apply is November 1. Additional information is available here.

Construction Industry Advancement Program Summer Internship and Scholarship Program |
CIAP is an opportunity to earn a great summer salary while gaining real world experience working in the heavy construction, highway, utility, geotechnical or commercial construction industry.
This twelve-week summer internship is open for engineering students in any discipline in their sophomore, junior or senior years, and some graduate students who will remain enrolled through Fall 2026.

Scholarship Opportunities |
|
|
SMART scholars, through the Department of Defense (DoD), offers scholarships for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students currently pursuing a degree in one of the 24 STEM disciplines. SMART scholars receive full tuition, annual stipends, and guaranteed employment with the DoD after graduation. The scholarship is due December 5. Additional information is available here.

The Association of General Contractors Education Foundation |
The Association of General Contractors (AGC) is offering scholarships for undergraduates are $2,500 per year and can be renewed for up to three years for the 2026-2027 academic year. Graduate awards are $3,750 annually up to a maximum of $7,500. The application and additional information is available here. The deadline to apply is November 1.

Construction Industry Advancement Program (CIAP) Summer Internship and Scholarship Information Session

Description: Learn about the internship and scholarship opportunity in the construction field. This is open to all sophomore, junior-level and some graduate students. The internship and scholarship application will open September 15 and is due October 15 here.

Description: This event is a great opportunity to mingle with your peers and CEOE faculty and staff, while enjoying ice cream and playing lawn games to celebrate the start of the academic year.

Description: Students will be guided on a walking tour of the NYCDDC’s East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) Project located between Montgomery St. and East 15th Street in Lower Manhattan. The $1.35B project involves creating a sustainable, community-oriented, 1.5 mile-long waterfront park that will not only provide flood protection to the area’s 110,000 residents, commercial properties and essential infrastructure, but improves accessibility to renovated park and recreational facilities. It is currently the largest infrastructure resiliency project underway in the US to address the impact of climate change.
After the tour, you will have the opportunity to meet company reps from several area firms for internship and career opportunities!

Location: between Montgomery St. and East 15th Street in Lower Manhattan (logistics to be communicated after September 26)
Time: Plan to leave Hoboken by approximately 7:00 am and return to Hoboken by approximately 4:00 pm.

Steel Day Trip: This trip has been generously supported by the Faculty-Led Field Trip Grant from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
|
Description: Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in work stations such as: steel erecting, welding (real and virtual), torch cutting, connection mock up, and column climbing. The tour runs approx. two hours and you can expect brief remarks covering what the ironworkers do and safety information before the activities begin. This is a great opportunity to learn first hand how industry fabricates steel used to rebuild infrastructure during a guided facilities tour. Lunch will follow.

Location: Springfield, NJ
Time: Departing Hoboken by approximately 9:00 am and returning to Hoboken by approximately 2:00 pm. Additional information will be communicated by October 16.

Safety: If available, please bring your own PPE. If not, it will be provided by our hosts. Students should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Those wishing to do welding or burning activities need work style boots.
Note: This is limited to the first 30 students who RSVP to attend. As space is limited, we request you do not RSVP unless you are certain you will attend.

Professional Seminar: Bridge Construction Engineering
|
|
|
Description: This seminar will describe what a Bridge Construction Engineer is, his or her role in the construction process and the technical engineering requirements to build a bridge. It will present construction methods as well as the oftentimes complicated and challenging engineering required to facilitate bridge construction. The presentation will also describe the overall design and construction process from conception, bidding and finally construction.

Speakers: Michael H. Marks, PE is Founder and Principal of EIC Group LLC , providing construction engineering services to major heavy highway and bridge contractors throughout the northeast. He is experienced in developing structural designs for new steel and concrete bridges, bridge rehabilitation, bridge jacking and lifting, bridge erection plans, demolition plans, sheet pile retaining walls, and temporary structures. He serves on the AASHTO Steel Bridge Erection Guide Specification Committee, past Chairman of the New Jersey Professional Engineers in Construction, presented numerous projects at the International Bridge Conference, and published various articles in trade publications. Michael has a BS in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University and a MS in Structural Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge MA. He is licensed in eleven (11) states.

Sustainability Seminar Series

The Hugo Neu Corporation Sustainability Seminar Series, organized by the MS program in Sustainability Management, is an effort to connect students to professionals in the field of sustainability. This is a weekly series sponsored by Hugo Neu Corporation and jointly sponsored by Geosyntec Consultants. Cosponsors are Brown and Caldwell, Lozier Inc., The Catalyst Group, and H2M Architects and Engineers. The seminars happen every Tuesday between 5-6pm via Zoom. Faith Macchione and Evan Papageorge received the 2025 Construction Roundtable of New Jersey Scholarships.
|
Danna Cardenas and Kyle Cocks are the recipients of the 2025 Moles Foundation Scholarship, each receiving a scholarship of $12,500.
|
Kyle Cocks was the recipient of the John F. Donohoe Scholarship award from the Associated Construction Contractors of New Jersey Scholarship Foundation, and the CMAA Metro NY/NJ Gold Scholarship.
|
