Frymoyer Scholars Program Showcase
|
Through the Frymoyer Scholars Program, the John W. and Nan P. Frymoyer Fund for Medical Education supports physicians and nurses who are actively engaged in teaching University of Vermont medical and nursing students who embody the best qualities of the clinician-teacher. The program is an investment in outstanding medical education and promotes teaching that emphasizes the art of patient care. This session will showcase a few of the many Frymoyer Scholars Program recipients and their projects.

In 2024, Lindsley and colleagues published a critical scoping review about the role of basic science education in the development of medical learners’ professional identities. The findings from this review will be used as a lens to consider opportunities for and responsibilities of basic science educators in this process.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHING ACADEMY MEMBERS

The Teaching Academy is pleased to announce the following award opportunities for members in 2026.
Teaching Academy Curriculum Development and Educational Scholarship Award
The Teaching Academy will present an award, up to $10,000, to fund projects that foster innovation and improvement in teaching, learning, and educational scholarship. Visit the Teaching Academy website for eligibility and details. Proposals are due May 1, 2026.
Teaching Academy Travel Award
The Teaching Academy will award up to three travel awards, up to $1,000 each, to support member travel to present educational scholarship or attend professional development events related to the mission of the Teaching Academy. Visit the Teaching Academy website for eligibility and details. Proposals are due May 1, 2026.
Teaching Academy Publication Stipend
The Teaching Academy Publication Stipend is dedicated to helping members defray publication costs of up to $500 for manuscripts on health professions education or medical education-related topics accepted for publication in education journals or education-focused sections of relevant academic journals. Congratulations Teaching Academy Members and Staff!

Toshiko L. Uchida, MD, Teaching Academy Distinguished Educator, was invested as the inaugural holder of the Dr. Yvette Pigeon Professorship in Medical Education on Wednesday, March 11.
Toshiko Uchida, MD, Distinguished Educator and Associate Dean for Curriculum, is heading up a team that has received a grant from UVM’s AI Innovation Fund to develop a process to use artificial intelligence (AI) to accurately, objectively, and securely score notes for Clinical Skills Exams.
AcademyHealth’s Child Health Services Research Interest Group has selected Christian Pulcini, MD, MPH, MEd, Member and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, as the recipient of its 2026 Early Career Investigator Award, in recognition of his work in child health services research. The award will be presented at the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting in Seattle on May 30.
