NOVEMBER 2022

FROM THE PARENT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Thank you to all of you who came to Bisons Weekend! We had a great turnout of alumni, families, friends and students.  It was a jam-packed two days filled with many events.
Even though it was cold Saturday, Nov. 12, we appreciate you coming out and supporting our performers, teams and student groups. From the parent breakfasts to the amazing musical "Crazy for You," from chapel to the volleyball, women’s and men’s basketball games and men’s soccer ASUN championship game, from Bison Square Fair and the fireworks—it was an awesome time! Thank you for making this weekend a success! Be sure to check out some of the weekend's images included in this issue!
As we enter into the final stretch of the semester, continue to encourage your student to begin preparing now for those final projects and semester exams.
The Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement wishes your family a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday with your family.
“Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 106:1

Go Bisons!

SCENES FROM BISONS WEEKEND

THINGS TO KNOW

Meet the Provost
Dr. Jennifer Shewmaker, Provost
We are nearing Christmas break, and there are decorations up and holiday cheer is spreading across the campus! I joined Lipscomb as the provost in September, and I am enjoying the beauty of the fall and the holiday season here in Nashville and on campus.
As the provost, I get to spend a lot of time with faculty members. I love to see the way that Lipscomb faculty support our students in a variety of ways, from inviting them into their homes to having coffee and conversation to helping students connect with peer tutors when they need that little extra bit of preparation for an exam or assignment.
It is such a joy to work with our faculty in teaching, mentoring and supporting each student to develop their strengths and to consider how God is calling them to use what they are learning at Lipscomb to take His light into the world to love and serve our neighbors. If there is one thing I hear most often from faculty, it is a deep commitment to nurturing our students to serve in their profession with excellence and love.
As we near the end of the semester, I ask that you pray for our students and the faculty and staff here at Lipscomb. Please pray that we will finish the semester with strength and grace, remembering that the work we do here is ultimately to glorify God and serve our students.
Writing Studio helps students refine skills
Did you know that Lipscomb has a Writing Studio for the students? The Writing Studio team assists students to refine and develop their ideas in an interactive process. They do not promise better grades; instead, they cultivate newfound confidence in the student’s own writing abilities.
The Writing Studio recently sent students a reminder that if they have a required visit due for a class, to get that completed as soon as possible. The Writing Studio will close on the last day of classes for the rest of the semester, and appointments can be hard to come by in December!
Questions or feedback about the Writing Studio? Email the director, Dr. Cori Mathis, at cemathis@lipscomb.edu. Learn more about the Writing Studio.
