As we end our fourth week of the fall semester, we would like to take the opportunity to send a message highlighting some of our campus’ COVID-19 safety management systems.
FAQ Page
The University maintains a COVID-19 Safety and Vaccination page that has connections to all aspects of our safety management systems and FAQs for employees, faculty and students:
https://www.csus.edu/return-to-campus/vaccination-faq.html.
Face Coverings and other PPE
Face coverings on campus are
recommended in certain cases but not required at this time. In the Health Center, face coverings are required for anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms. Individual employees and faculty can request face coverings, while departments can request bulk disinfectant wipes for delivery by placing orders for supplies through our Environmental Health and Safety Department. You can make these requests by visiting the following link:

Upgraded Air Filtering Systems
Based on the government recommendations for air filtering, the University installed MERV-13 level filters in all buildings; these are in operation right now. Several buildings also have upgraded mechanical systems to handle the increased filtering capacity of the new filters.
Buildings also have systems installed that control and maximize the amount of outdoor air mixed into the building. Those who wish to review more technical details about how all buildings have safer air filtering systems can find those here: https://www.csus.edu/administration-business-affairs/risk-management-services/_internal/_documents/hvac.pdf
How to Report a Positive COVID-19 Case
We recognize that despite our COVID-19 safety management systems, some employees may contract the virus on or off campus. In order to minimize transmission of the virus among employees on campus, the University requires that employees who test positive must report their positive test directly to the University’s confidential reporting system immediately after a positive test is confirmed. Link to report positive COVID-19 test for employees:
https://www.csus.edu/administration-business-affairs/risk-management-services/forms/report-an-employee-faculty-covid-19-positive-case.html
In addition to reporting a positive test result, employees must inform their supervisor, as the positive test means they will be excluded from in-person work for a number of days.
Students who are symptomatic or test positive must report a positive test result via the student health services reporting link:
https://www.csus.edu/student-life/health-counseling/
University Enterprises Inc., (UEI) employees are asked to report exposure, symptoms, or positive cases of COVID-19 to UEI Human Resources using their COVID-19 Intake Form:

Contact Tracing Guidelines
We are following the State of California Department of Public Health guidelines that help us assess which employees have had close contact with a person who reports a positive test. Generally, being within 6 feet, face to face for more than 15 minutes with a person who is positive and infectious is considered a "close contact”, although the new guidelines now enable us to consider other people nearby who have over 15 minutes of potential exposure.
If you are an employee who has had close contact with someone who later reports a positive test, you will be notified by email by Human Resources (HR) within one day. You are then eligible to get a test kit as instructed by the email from HR.
