The University of Texas at Austin
Dear Colleagues,
The changing landscape for federal funding is driving changes to research, budget planning and operations at universities across the country. As one of the world’s leading public institutions, The University of Texas at Austin will adapt to this changing landscape.
Our research mission is important, and we intend to sustain it. Working with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors, we are monitoring the federal landscape to understand the implications of these changes and expect the need to adjust to new federal funding levels. We will innovate and do things differently both from the center and in the colleges, schools and research units.
To navigate these changes, we have started active scenario planning for this fiscal year and next year. While we assess future funding needs and opportunities at the University level, we know that colleges, schools and units are beginning to work on their own “local” solutions. During the weeks ahead, we will continue to gather input and consult our campus partners on how to adjust to changes that impact funding.
It’s important to recognize that our research activity remains robust. To help keep our research enterprise running successfully, we encourage you to keep the lines of communication open with your program officers at sponsor agencies, continue to submit grant proposals for funding, and communicate with our Office of Sponsored Projects if you receive updates to the status of your funding.
The University of Texas at Austin is well-positioned to succeed in a changing environment. We are confident that we will adapt to these changes and continue to pursue and even grow academic and research excellence in service to the state of Texas and our world.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment as we work together to advance our mission with excellence.
Sincerely,
Jim Davis
