CHANGING LANES

CHANGING LANES film still
USA, 2025, Ben Wolf

Featuring musician David Byrne and legendary urban planner Janette Sadik-Khan, the new documentary CHANGING LANES investigates why our streets are designed the way they are, and what it will take to make them safer and more livable. When a beloved teacher is tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a grassroots movement emerges to transform a notoriously dangerous four-lane boulevard into a safer, two-lane street with protected bike lanes. While many applaud the proposed change, it also sparks a backlash – led in part by a powerful local business owner. As government support begins to waver, neighbors unite to challenge entrenched interests and fight for a safer Greenpoint. Changing Lanes situates this local struggle within broader historical, environmental, political, and social contexts through interviews with politicians, activists, urban planners, entrepreneurs, and cultural icons – a compelling call to action for democracy at street level. 75 min. plus discussion with Calley Mersmann (Director of City Planning, City of Cleveland), Angie Schmitt (Author of Right of Way and Urban Planner), and Patty Knilans (NEO Chapter Leader, Families for Safe Streets), moderated by Jacob VanSickle (Executive Director, Bike Cleveland).

Cleveland premiere. Post-film discussion in partnership with Bike Cleveland.

SILENT FRIEND

 SILENT FRIEND film still
Germany/Hungary/France/China, 2026, Ildikó Enyedi

Tony Leung and Léa Seydoux star in SILENT FRIEND. On the grounds of a medieval German university town looms an imposing Ginkgo biloba, a tree whose longevity stands in marked contrast to three intimate, human-scaled stories. In 1908, the university’s first female student gains admission into the prestigious botany department, confronting the sexism of both professors and peers. In 1972, amidst counterculture movements, a reserved student finds his attention captured by a fellow housemate and the geranium plant she studies. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a neuroscientist from Hong Kong secures the help of a renowned botanist for an experiment on the old ginkgo tree. 147 min.

THE SHEPHERD AND THE BEAR

THE SHEPHERD AND THE BEAR film still
UK/France/USA, 2026, Max Keegan

Set high in the majestic French Pyrenees, THE SHEPHERD AND THE BEAR explores a conflict provoked by the reintroduction of brown bears in the midst of a traditional shepherding community. It follows an aging shepherd who struggles to find a successor as bears prey on his flock, and a teenage boy who becomes obsessed with tracking the bears. Through its breathtaking cinematography and immersive storytelling, we see a modern folktale about tradition, community and humanity's relationship with a vanishing natural world. "Max Keegan’s film combines a picturesque study of nature with an equally perceptive look at human nature as it explores two very different ideologies" -- Time Out Film. 101 min. plus pre-recorded filmmaker intro.

Cleveland premiere.

THE SEDUCTION OF MIMI

THE SEDUCTION OF MIMI film still
Italy/Germany, 1972, Lina Wertmüller

Voting against the Mafia in what he thinks is a secret ballot costs Sicilian laborer Mimi his livelihood. He leaves his wife, flees to Turin and romances a Communist organizer – but he just can’t shake the Mafia. When they lure Mimi back to Sicily with a better job, he must keep his lover – and love child – under wraps. That’s when his wife announces she’s pregnant. The farcical comedy THE SEDUCTION OF MIMI marked the first time that Wertmüller worked on screen with her frequent regulars Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela Melato. "Sexual hypocrisies and political dilemmas rarely flow smoothly onto the screen. But Lina Wertmuller excels in conveying both" --Nora Sayre, The New York Times. 113 min.
