There are many ways to protect Al‑Anon as a fellowship and as an organization. In addition to trademark registration of the Al‑Anon and Alateen name and the Al‑Anon logo, Al‑Anon's Conference Approved Literature (CAL) is safeguarded by copyright protection.
Check out the article “Worthy of Protecting,” which discusses the importance of protecting our copyrighted materials and why we use the Request Permission to Reprint form. There are narrow circumstances in which permission is not necessary, but the process exists to promote unity and prevent Al‑Anon’s message from being diluted, misunderstood, or taken out of context.

Tradition Seven—It’s Not (Just) About the Money! |
“At first glance, the Traditions seemed completely outside of my general understanding and lived experience. It took time to learn the Al‑Anon language and make sense of some of the things that were said…”

Al-Anon in National Media |
Be on the lookout for the “Dear Abby” newspaper column on August 3, 2025, which will recommend Al‑Anon.
Many newspapers now offer digital or online‑only content, so check their websites and consider leaving a thank‑you comment for the recommendation. Please protect your anonymity at the level of the internet by not revealing your Al‑Anon membership.
Readers may contact the World Service Office (WSO) for local meeting information. To help newcomers, it is vital that groups keep their meeting information updated with the WSO and service arm websites. Thank you for offering help and hope to families and friends of alcoholics.
