Dear Tulane Community,
We have more good news to share regarding the saltwater intrusion issue.
Earlier this week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that the saltwater wedge is receding downstream in the Mississippi River and is now five miles further away from our water intake system than previously reported. This happened in part because of additional rainfall from the Red River flowing into the Mississippi and the expansion of an underwater sill that was completed Wednesday to slow down the saltwater. We do not expect to be impacted by saltwater intrusion at this point.
Our teams across campus will continue to work behind the scenes to prepare should anything change; however, no plans will be implemented at this time.
Given this good news, this will be the last email on this evolving situation unless something significant changes in the movement of the saltwater wedge. We appreciate your attention to this issue over the previous few weeks and thank you for your commitment to personal and community preparedness.
Respectfully,
The Office of Emergency Preparedness & Response
