The Move-In Process
Check out our move-in video!
Arriving to Campus
- We ask that you only bring one vehicle to campus, and remember, less is more when packing!
-
As you arrive to campus, follow our website or MSU app instructions and directional signs leading you to your hall and unloading zone. This may be different from what your GPS says.
- At your hall, you will be directed to an unloading space. The driver must stay with the vehicle as you go inside to check in.
Checking in to Your Hall
-
Check-in locations for East are as follows:
- West Akers: West Akers Study Lounge
- East Akers: East Akers Study Lounge
- West Holmes: West Holmes Study Lounge
-
East Holmes: East Holmes Study Lounge
- North Hubbard: North Hubbard Service Center
- South Hubbard: South Hubbard Service Center
- McDonel Hall: East McDonel Service Center
-
You will receive your room key, lanyard, check-in materials with helpful info about living on campus, and a meal voucher for two move-in helpers.
Unloading Your Belongings
-
As you check in, your move-in helpers can begin unloading the vehicle.
- Move-in carts will be available to help you bring items to your room.
- The driver will need to move the vehicle to the long-term neighborhood parking lot as soon as it is unloaded, before they help unpack.
- Once at your room, place your things in your room and return the move-in carts. Then you can unpack and set up your space!

Arriving After Hours?
We understand that sometimes things happen that are out of your control. If you miss your move-in time, you may arrive to your hall after 7 p.m. If this is the case, check-in at the closest open primary service center.

On-Campus Water
MSU operates its own water system, drawing from wells in the agriculture district to provide approximately one billion gallons annually for most buildings on the East Lansing campus. The water meets all regulatory requirements, with routine sampling consistently performed to ensure safety. Occasionally, you might notice "red water" in the halls. This discolored water is safe to use and will clear up after running the faucet for a few minutes. For more details, read the complete Water Quality Report at ipf.msu.edu.
