Greetings from the University Staff Advisory Council!

October Meeting Highlights

  • USAC was joined by Assistant Vice Chancellor Alan Bentley, Director of the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization (CTTC). Assistant Vice Chancellor Bentley presented an overview of the work of the CTTC, which brought in $96 million in licensing revenue for the University in fiscal year 2023. In addition to providing commercialization services to the Vanderbilt Community, the CTTC serves many other functions that contribute to the University's mission, create revenue and funding for research, and impact society positively.

  • Julie Hanna, Benefits Operations Manager in Vanderbilt Human Resources, gave an overview of the 2024 Benefits in advance of Open Enrollment, which runs from October 16 through October 27. There are various tools to help the staff community with their selections, including an on-campus open enrollment lab on October 19. Please remember that you must make elections during the Open Enrollment period or your benefits will carry over from 2023 at the same level of coverage.

 USAC Fall Coffee Hour

Level up your ChatGPT skills
Professor Jules White recently launched a second Coursera course on leveraging this emerging technology - ChatGPT Advanced Data Analysis.  Prof. White demonstrated some of the skills you will learn in his presentation to USAC in August, including having ChatGPT read your PowerPoint slides or documents and ask you challenging follow-up questions to prepare for a quiz or uploading a large document and then having ChatGPT answer specific questions about its contents. Through Coursera for Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt staff can earn this shareable certificate for free. To access Coursera for Vanderbilt, please log in using your Vanderbilt email address.  Read more about this course in a recent MyVU article.
