Parking and transportation success

The International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI) recently honored UTA Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) with the Organization of the Year award. IPMI and the Texas Parking and Transportation Association also recognized the PATS team with the Apex Award for Innovation and the Award of Excellence for the first installation of Professor Sahadat Hossain's plastic roads project in parking lots 49 and F10. This marks the second year in a row that PATS has received an International Award of Excellence, with the team winning the award last year for its self-driving shuttles program.

| A professor's innovative, sustainable idea
|
In 2020, Sahadat Hossain, a professor in UTA’s Civil Engineering Department, and his team of researchers examined the feasibility and potential benefits of integrating recycled plastics into asphalt mixtures. Their research led to the initial use of plastic-infused asphalt in parking lots and resulted in Dr. Hossain and the PATS team being recognized by IPMI with the Apex Award for Innovation.
