First-Generation Celebration: The First-Generation Celebration will be held on November 8, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Center for Student Success (first floor of the 910 Madison Building.) Held annually on November 8 to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965, this act created federal financial aid programs and led to the development of programs such as TRiO that promote college access for low-income, first-generation college students. In October, the Office of Student Success will make buttons available to all students, staff, and faculty who wish to self-identify as being the first in their family to have completed an undergraduate degree. On November 8, the Office of Student Success will host a fellowship lunch celebrating first-generation students. Time and location TBD.

HRSA Renews Grant to College of Nursing: The College of Nursing will provide stipends of $23,947 per year annually to 19 advanced practice nursing students committed to serving rural and underserved communities, thanks to the $2.6 million renewal of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant originally awarded in 2019. The goal of the four-year grant is to increase the number of nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives to serve underserved populations and to increase diversity in the workforce. The renewal nearly quadruples the commitment to supporting nursing education.

License Plates: In order to keep the UTHSC specialty license plates in production, we must maintain 800+ active registrations each year. We currently have under 400. The specialty license plate costs $61.50 ($35 more than a standard plate), plus additional county fees. A portion of the money generated from the sale of the specialty license plate supports educational outreach at UTHSC. Please consider purchasing a UTHSC license plate – and be an ambassador wherever you go!
