We're Talking Stories

On August 3, 2021, PBS Hawaiʻi launched the station’s first audio podcast, What School You Went?, with a hilarious conversation about the Manapua Man with DJ/comedian Lanai Tabura. Breaking new ground, the program provided us with insights, meaningful conversations and a unique platform to engage with our island communities and beyond our shores. Listeners across the globe expressed their gratitude for the stories we shared over the past three years. Here are our Top 10 episodes of all time (you’ll notice a trend):

#1 - Lopaka Kapanui - Oʻahu’s Top 5 Most Haunted Schools

#2 - Lopaka Kapanui - Green Lady of Wahiawā

#3 - Lopaka Kapanui - The Legend of the Night Marchers

#4 - Lanai Tabura - Manapua Man

#5 - Robbie Dingeman - Diane Suzuki

#6 - Lopaka Kapanui - Pork Over the Pali

#7 - Lopaka Kapanui - The Untold Story of the Kauaʻi Tree Tunnel

#8 - Lopaka Kapanui - Why is Wilson Tunnel Haunted?

#9 - Frank De Lima - Malasadas

#10 - Lopaka Kapanui - The Kasha of Kaimukī

After 185 episodes and nearly 300,000 all-time listens, What School You Went? will be coming to an end. While this was not an easy decision to make, I’ve recognized the need to focus my efforts on operational demands and supporting our next chapter of growth. I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to Digital Content Creator, Jesse Macadangdang, and VP of Communications, Jody Shiroma, whose vision and dedication were integral to the podcast’s success.

It’s been a blast talking story and capturing pieces of what makes our island home beautiful and unique. While this story is ending, podcasts and a spirit of innovation must continue to be a part of who we are. Please join us today for one more episode – a walk down memory lane with radio legend Kamasami Kong – before we say aloha. I sincerely thank you for your support. It’s been one heck-of-a ride!

With respect and aloha,

Ron Mizutani
President and CEO
